That was fast! Earlier this week, we reported about the possible gmail upgrade that was rumored to be released soon, and it looks like Google officially announced it today. According to Google, the ‘new inbox’ will put users ‘back in control’ of their emails and sort them in a much better way.

Users receive a lot of different types of emails: messages from friends, social notification, promotional offers and deals, order confirmations, receipts and many more. Gmail’s new inbox will organize different type of emails and sort them in a very convenient fashion.

The desktop version of new inbox will group emails into various categories which will appear as different tabs. Users can click on the category tabs to show relevant emails at a glance. Users can also customize the tabs and drag-and-drop to move messages between tabs, set certain senders to always appear in a particular tab and star messages so that they also appear in the Primary tab.

New gmail inbox will also be available for Android and iOS platform.
