Gmail for iOS gets updated with category sorting and improved notifications

Google’s been on a roll since I/O 2013 releasing new features for various products like Gmail, Drive, Google+, etc. Google gave their Android Gmail app a priority for obvious reasons and today they release an update for iOS platform that includes the new email grouping feature. However, you’ll have to enable this feature from the desktop web interface before using it in the app. They’ve also improved notifications which can be customized for categories, accounts, etc.

Below is the official update of what’s new in the version 2.3.14159:

  • New notifications options: Get notified for all messages, only important messages, or none at all, on a per account basis. Customize these settings from the in-app settings page.
  • Meet the new inbox: If you’ve enabled the new inbox, your mail is now grouped into categories so that you can see what’s new at a glance and decide which emails you want to read when. Primary mail is shown first and it’s easy to access and keep track of email in other categories by opening the menu. Configure this feature by going to on your computer.
